* DOOR CLOSERS * (Hydraulic closer at the top of the door)

We adjust (repair) and install door closers onto doors.  The purpose of a door closer is to make sure a door closes automatically when a person exits a door.  There are a mutiple of reasons why someone would want a door to close automaticall: (1) to make sure the door is locked at all times; (2) to keep animals, bugs, etc out of the building; (3) to keep heat (or air conditioning) in the building; (4)  to keep the door from swinging open and slamming into the building and doing damage to the building or door or anyting else in line with the door; (5) to keep the door from swinging too far open and hitting the building and putting leverage against the hinges on the door and ripping the door out of its frame, potentially causing damage to the door and potentially seriously injuring someone being hit by the door.

As with locks and panic hardware devices, there are different grades and qualities of door closers.  The bigger and the heavier the door, the better quality door closer that is needed on a door.  Also, the more obstruction there is that causes a door to not fully close the heavier, better quality door closer that is needed.  Obstructions can be (a) the weather-stripping at the bottom of the door that drags on the threshold; (b) the door dragging on the threshold; (c) the door not fitting in the frame squarely therefore the door hitting on the side door jamb; (d) the butt hinges not situated properly in the door and/or door frames; (e) the door swelling on the butt-hinge side therefore pushing the door too far towards the latch side; (f) obstruction of some kind (dirt, rocks, snow, ice, you name it) that pushes the door outward from the butt-hinge side towards the latch side).

We will see that people have purchased a "door closer" from one of the Big Box stores that really shouldn't be used on a door unless the door had NO Weather-stripping what so ever and completely and thoroughly closes with NO OBSTRUCITONS WHAT SO EVER, and for the most part there is no such a situation.  The customer will wonder why this door closer doesn't close their door, and reason being:  You get what you pay for.  We have some nice heavy door closers that will NOT close some doors, and in these circumstances an Extra Heavy Duty Door Closer is needed.  We have seen just about every situation there is, with the owner's over 28 years of working in the trade hands-on, and know which door closer is suitable for any given situation.
